How do I order the Breg Cold Therapy machine? (Waltham ONLY)
When can I remove the bandage?
If you've had an arthroscopic procedure, you may remove the large bandage on post-operative day number 3. If you've had an open procedure, please do not remove the large bandage until after post operative day number 7. There may be small strips called "steri-strips" in place. Do not pull off the steri-strips. They will fall off on their own.
When can I shower?
Once the dressing is off (per above, you may get the incision wet in the shower, but do not scrub it. No soaks, hot hubs, pools, baths, or soiled water until cleared by your doctor. DO NOT apply creams or ointments of any kind to the surgical site.
Why am I taking aspirin?
We prescribe aspirin 81 mg daily for four weeks after surgery to help prevent blood clots.
How do I order the Breg Cold Therapy machine? (Waltham ONLY)
Do I need the sutures removed?
No. In most cases we use dissolvable sutures. These will dissolve over time and do not need to be removed in the office. If you've had non-dissolvable sutures we will remove these at your first post-operative visit.
Where can I get a copy of the post operative instructions?
Do I need to take antibiotics after surgery?
In select cases, we may prescribe you antibiotics post operatively. This information will be on your discharge paperwork. If you had a shoulder replacement we will ask you to take prophylactic antibiotics prior to dental procedures. This information can be found on your post operative instructions.
Can I ice my shoulder with the ice machine?
Yes. In general, we recommend you ice in a 20 minutes "on", 20 minutes "off" regimen. You may ice even when the nerve block is making your arm numb, but please be sure to check the skin every 20 minutes to ensure there is no burn.
